We started with John 9, this is the second post from John 9. This post is crucial for some of us ..for it will highlight certain traits .. and it is our discernment to see for ourselves if some of these traits are found in our own lives..
Question by people: how were your eyes opened
Answer: the man called Jesus made mud and anointed my eyes and said to me, Go to Siloam and wash. So I went and washed and received my sight
Question: where is he
Answer: I don't know
Question by Pharisee : how did you receive your sight
Answer: He put mud on my eyes, and I washed and I see.
Question from Pharisee: what do you say about him
Answer: he is a prophet
This passage is lifted word by word from John 9: 9-17
Let's begin:
Little background incase you didn't read the last post .. there was a blind man .. blind from birth .. Jesus healed him .. and the above passage is a scenario right after this miracle.
As soon as this healed man was spotted by people they begin to wonder .. if he really was the same blind man who was blind from birth .. so they .. like any curious human being .. started asking questions
But I want to take your focus to the way this man answered - if you notice .. he narrated the incident of his miracle exactly in the manner it occurred . He did not add information , he did not omit information ., he did not coat it with fancy details ..he just said it the way it happened ...But the problem was .. it was too simple and straightforward for the people to understand.
Now since the people could not really understand a simple answer, this poor fellow was send to the Pharisees ... the learned men ..great intellect .. great wisdom .. this man narrated the exact same answer to their exact same question- he answer "the man called Jesus made mud and anointed my eyes and said to me to go wash in the pool of Siloam , so I went and came back seeing" pretty much what happened 🙂 isn't it ?
But guess what verse 18 says they did not believe him .. they called for his parents to testify .. verse 22 says the parents were scared to confess Jesus due to the fear of being put out of the synagogue"
Later the Pharisees made a statement " they called the man a second time and said to him ..we know that Jesus is a sinner, give glory to God"
This SIMPLE blind man said " whether he is a sinner I do not know ( simplicity speaks the truth - this blind man had no history of Jesus and so he chose not to agree or disagree with the Pharisee) rather he only spoke the TRUTH he knew ... and that was " I WAS BLIND but now I SEE"
The most unbelievable verse in the chapter is verse 26.. after all of this they put the same question to him again 🤷♀️ " how did he heal your eyes , what did he do to you "
A simple answer was absolutely beyond the understanding of the complicated minds of Pharisees .. the language of simplicity was indecipherable for them...
Now here is what I want us to understand ..2 Corinthian 11:3 says " But I fear lest by any means, as the serpent beguiled Eve through his subtlety so your minds should be corrupted from the SIMPLICITY that is IN CHRIST. "
Paul was fearful of the church losing its simplicity, he was fearful that one day it is possible for us to lose our understanding power .. our cognitive skills .. simply because we have read too much , been around for a long time .. served for too long .. it could be any of these factors. Not to forget .. Paul uses the word " subtle" .. it's a hint at the fact that losing of simplicity does not happen drastically but over time.. gradually .. through subtle openings.
Who thought the desire for seeking knowledge could lead these Pharisees to become foolish 🙉.. the number of times they persecuted the poor blind man with their questions.. makes me feel they had completely lost understanding ..
Have we been in a similar place ? Have we been sometimes unable to understand simple and straightforward things in Gods kingdom ? This passage is throwing light on the danger of drifting away ..... drifting away from being the "PROTECTORS OF LAW" to becoming " FOOLISH" .. Pharisees started of as good men .. men who were striving to inculcate Godly principles in people's lives .. but we do understand why Paul was worried ..
I asked a prophet of God .. after a super fruitful day of miracles .. I asked him .. now what does God says to you - he said - God says "now erase what happened today from your memory and move on , that you may not lose your simplicity" ☺️
My prayers is that we retain our simplicity .. th same simplicity that Christ had, let's pray
Dear Jesus
There is so much in your word .. thankyou for your word that we may be prepared.. just like a spotless bride before you come . Please give us grace to retain our simplicity .. just like you were a simple hearted man 🙂 we want to be like you lord . Lots of love to you 💕 Amen
